Sukuthula Gender-Based Violence Initiative is looking for dedicated interns to join our team and be a part of our mission to create a safer and more equitable society for all.

 

About Sukuthula Unmute:

Sukuthula Unmute is a dynamic initiative dedicated to addressing gender-based violence (GBV) in the Eastern Cape and Limpopo Provinces. Our mission is to empower communities through strategic grants using a model of trust-based grant making through multiyear, flexible funding with streamlined processes and systems, and more decision-making power in the hands of the grantee partners and communities most affected by GBV. Through our Sukuthula Gender Based Violence Initiative, we aim to drive positive change by supporting grassroots initiatives.

 

Overview of the role:

As an intern with Sukuthula GBV Initiative, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in supporting our various programs and initiatives aimed at addressing gender-based violence. You will work closely with our team to assist in research, advocacy, outreach, and support services for survivors.

Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to the Sukuthula Gender-Based Violence Initiative team, including organizing and maintaining files, databases, and records.
  • Assist in scheduling and coordinating meetings, workshops, and events related to GBV awareness and prevention.
  • Prepare and distribute materials for workshops and events, including presentations, handouts, and promotional materials.
  • Assist in conducting research on GBV-related topics and compiling relevant information for educational materials and reports.
  • Help manage communication channels, including responding to emails, phone calls, WhatsApp messages, and inquiries from stakeholders and community members.
  • Assist in drafting and editing correspondence, reports, and other written materials as needed.
  • Support the team in monitoring and evaluating program activities, including collecting data and feedback from grantees.
  • Assist in maintaining the Sukuthula Unmute website and social media platforms, including updating content and engaging with followers.
  • Provide logistical support during workshops and events, including setting up venues, coordinating catering, and managing participant registration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the Sukuthula Gender Based Violence Initiative.
Qualification
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant degree program (e.g., Social Work, Gender Studies, Psychology, Public Health, etc.).
  • Strong passion for social justice and gender equality issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with social media platforms.
  • Excellent in numbers/figures – to support financial review process etc.
Experience
  • Prior experience or coursework related to gender-based violence, advocacy, or community outreach is preferred but not required.
  • Experience volunteering or working with non-profit organizations or community groups is a plus.

  • Compassionate and empathetic towards survivors of gender-based violence.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and quality in all tasks.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for social justice and gender equality, with a desire to make a positive impact in the community.
