As part of working towards the goal of keeping All Children on Track by Grade 4, Umncedi connects people working with young children across South Africa. Umncedi gathers and shares resources, information and support to strengthen Early Childhood Development programmes and networks.

We are looking for a young proactive and digitally savvy Communications and Network Support Officer to support the implementation of Umncedi’s communications and network engagement activities.

The successful candidate will help maintain Umncedi’s digital presence, support engagement with ECD Forums across the country and assist in sharing practical information and resources that strengthen ECD programmes.

 

Responsibilities

Social Media and Communications

· Manage and update Umncedi’s social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn and TikTok).

· Create engaging content using tools such as Canva.

· Monitor social media for relevant sector news and engagement opportunities.

· Maintain a content calendar and ensure consistent posting.

 

Network Engagement

· Share updates, resources and information with the Umncedi Network through WhatsApp groups and social media.

· Assist in organising site visits to ECD programmes, forums and partner organisations.

· Support the ECD Network Manager in maintaining a national database of ECD Forums

· Assist in hosting information-sharing webinars for the network.

 

Content and Knowledge Sharing

· Develop short summaries of ECD resources and share them across Umncedi platforms.

· Support the maintenance of Umncedi’s digital resource archive.

· Update the Umncedi website regularly using WordPress.

 

Administrative Support

· Provide administrative support for Umncedi activities.

· Assist with logistics for site visits including booking travel and accommodation.

· Support the management and ordering of Umncedi communication materials


Qualification

  • A Diploma or degree in Communications/Marketing/Media/Journalism, or a related field


Experience

  • Basic experience in managing or updating WordPress websites
  • At least 2-3 years experience in communications, social media management or digital content creation
  • Experience working in the NGO, education or development sector would advantageous
  • Excellent computer skills including use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite
  • Proficient in using social media platforms Facebook (Meta), LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.).
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is preferred
  • Knowledge of SEO and content marketing principles is a plus
  • Creative thinker with the ability to generate innovative ideas.

  • Comfortable engaging with a wide range of stakeholders including ECD practitioners, NGOs and partners.
