JOB SPECIFICATION - ACTIVE VACANCY
Overview of Role

About the role
DGMT is a public innovator committed to developing South Africa’s potential through strategic investment. Our goal for South Africa is a flourishing people, economy, and society.
As digital technologies become increasingly central to participation in education, health, civic life, and economic opportunity, equitable access to connectivity and digital platforms is essential. DGMT works with partners across civil society, government, and the technology sector to strengthen digital inclusion, innovation, and access to public-benefit digital services.
To support this work, DGMT is seeking to appoint a Digital Innovation Coordinator who will coordinate the Connectivity Coalition for Zero-Rating, support the functioning and development of the AMC (Amplify Mobilise Change) platform, and help strengthen technology alignment within DGMT’s grant-making and partner ecosystem.
The Connectivity Coalition aims to expand zero-rated access to essential online platforms, particularly those supporting learning, civic participation, and social development, through collaboration with civil society, telecommunications providers, and regulatory bodies.
The Digital Innovation Coordinator will play a key role in ensuring effective coordination across partners, supporting technical systems, and strengthening DGMT’s learning and strategy on digital innovation. We are looking for a highly organised, systems-oriented individual with strong coordination skills and a passion for digital access and social impact.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the Connectivity Coalition for Zero-Rating, including convening partners, supporting coalition strategy, and maintaining strong collaboration between civil society, telecommunications stakeholders, and policy actors.
- Support policy and advocacy processes related to digital access and zero-rating, including coordination of research inputs, policy submissions, and stakeholder engagement where required.
- Provide technical coordination and support for the AMC platform, including working with developers, troubleshooting issues, and supporting DGMT staff and partners using the system.
- Support alignment of technology and digital tools across DGMT’s grant-making portfolio, including advising on opportunities to strengthen digital integration within partner programmes.
- Coordinate relationships with technology providers, developers, and digital service partners supporting DGMT initiatives.
- Support project planning, contracting, budgeting, and reporting related to digital innovation initiatives.
- Track progress, learning, and impact across digital innovation activities, ensuring insights inform DGMT strategy and are shared across the organisation.
- Contribute to cross-portfolio collaboration within DGMT to identify opportunities where digital tools and connectivity can strengthen programme outcomes.
- Support the development of communications materials, briefs, and knowledge products that highlight insights and progress from DGMT’s digital innovation work.
- Represent DGMT in relevant digital innovation, connectivity, and technology-for-development forums where appropriate.
Qualification
- A relevant tertiary qualification in information systems, computer science, development studies, public policy, social sciences, or a related field.
- Postgraduate qualifications are advantageous.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in digital project coordination, technology programmes, innovation initiatives, or development-sector programme management.
- Experience working with digital platforms, technology systems, or digital service providers.
- Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder initiatives or partnerships across civil society, government, or the private sector.
- Understanding of digital inclusion, connectivity, or technology-for-development initiatives.
- Strong planning, coordination, and organisational skills.
- Familiarity with monitoring, evaluation, and learning approaches.
- Experience working in the non-profit, innovation, or social impact sector will be advantageous.
Personal Characteristics
- Strong commitment to social justice, inclusion, and equitable digital access.
- Systems thinker who is comfortable working at the intersection of technology, policy, and social impact.
- Highly organised and able to manage multiple projects and partners simultaneously.
- Collaborative and able to build strong relationships across diverse stakeholders.
- Curious, proactive, and solution-oriented.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Adaptable and comfortable working in emerging innovation spaces where strategies evolve over time.
